Support Services
For effective livelihood enhancement, there is a need to complement the trainings with the necessary support services at filed level. These Support Services include process facilitation, handholding support, preparing demonstration plots, sharing of the information etc. Persons with field exposure and expertise in hand holding is attached to the CLRC and the services are delivered through them. Support needs are identified in the process of preparing capacity building action plan and intensive support activity plans in thematic areas are developed accordingly.
In 2005-2006, support services were extended in promoting System of Rice Intensification, Comprehensive Land Development and Piloting certain processes of Andhra Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. In 2006-2007, the further focus is on providing support services in the areas of Non Pesticidal Management in Pigeonpea (Redgram), Livestock Management, Fisheries in selected watershed villages.

System of Rice Intensification (SRI) :
System of Rice Intensification is a method of rice cultivation. It uses less seed, no chemical fertilizers and pesticides and less water. As rice is the staple food, adoption of SRI method opens up potential water saving and groundwater management issues. Andhra Pradesh Government has taken a decision to promote it in a big way as the water consumption is less compared to the traditional method of rice cultivation. (www.wassan.org/sri.htm)
As part of the WWF - ICRISAT Project, Parigi CLRC has taken up an initiative to promote SRI in its field area in the Ranga Reddy District. It has implemented the project in Khariff season (2005-2006) in 9 villages of 3 mandals with 19 farmers. The extent of cultivated area under SRI is 24.5 acres. In Rabi, the area was expanded to nearly 45 acres with 52 farmers of 16 villages in 3 Mandals.
In Mahabubnagar district, Kosgi CLRC has taken up this project in 15 villages with approximately 200 farmers in Kosigi Mandal. Nearly 100 farmers have tried this method in 10 villages of Doultabad Mandal.
As part of the services, several trainings were organized. Exposure visits conducted. Demonstration plots were developed. An information centre on SRI is opened at CLRC. Information stalls are organized at local shandy so as to widely disseminate the information. Trained community level resource persons have been extending information to the farmers on the nuances and intricacies of this unique method. Frequent field visits are made during the crop period. Two persons from each mandal are engaged for regular field visits and monitoring the crop status. Mandal wise reviews are organised with village level activists during the first two months of the crop period. Field visits organised to non-SRI farmers to SRI fields to facilitate the exchange of information and experiences.
