Easing bullock
constraints
Lack of draught power
forces farmers either to sow late in the
season or leave the land fallow. Earlier methods of
providing bullocks on loan have not succeeded and have
increased the debt-burden. This initiative is to find new
ways of providing of this key support to the poor farmers.
The purpose is to
create a facility for
the poor in the village, where their lands will be ploughed
on a priority basis. This facility will be established at VO
level but managed by the group of farmers those who do not
own bullocks. The initiative is grounded on a pilot basis in
one village in each mandal i.e. 3 project villages with 9
pairs of bullocks. The VO owns the bullocks and hires-out
them to an individual with a condition to plough the lands
of the CIG on a priority basis. The CIG of farmers who needs
bullock-services would pay a membership fee of Rs.150/- as
an advance payment to VO. The experience is emerging and
needs to be further refined in the processes. Ways of
integrating the bullock-based support facilities in EGS are
being explored.
