Performance of rice variety Gr= -11 under System of Rice Intensification

        &= nbsp;   A field experiment was conducted during wet season of 2005 in clay loam soils= at Main Rice Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Nawagam (Gujarat) to study the performance of rice variety GR-11 under different crop establishm= ent methods. SRI method with organic manuring and S= RI with integrated nutrient management were compared with standard practice of transplanting. The results revealed significant differences in grain yield, straw yield and yield attributing characters. Treatment T3 i.e. SRI with 50% FYM + 50% R.D. o= f NPK (INM) produced the highest grain and straw yield of 6.165 t/ha  and 7.965 t/ha,  respectively, which were significa= ntly higher than those obtained with the treatments T1 i.e. standard practice of transpla= nting and T2 i.e. SRI with= 100% organic manuring.

Data on yield attributing characters viz= . plant height, panicles number / sq. m., panicle weight, 1000 grain weight, filled grains (no.) /panicle and sterility percentage were better with SRI treatment and differed significantly from those recorded for the other two<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>  treatments.  Further in SRI cultivation a net s= aving of nearly 40% of irrigation water was recorded compared with the standard practice of transplanting under flood irrigation.

From the economics point of view, SRI with integrated nutrient management and SRI with 100% organic manuring saved 28.63% and 34.= 25%, respectively, in input cost as compared to standard practice of transplanti= ng with recommended fertilizer and cultural practices. Thus SRI method proved = its superiority in respect of higher grain and straw yield and saving of about = 40% of irrigation water and was found cost effective.
