decreasing year by year due to increasing consumption of other sectors like
industries and growing cities. Flooded rice is consuming about 3000 liters =
of
water to produce one kg of grain and its consumption of irrigation water on
global scale is about 1.2 trillion m3 year. Despite efforts on a
variety of fronts, including genetic engineering and nutrient management for
improving the yield resulted in plateauning of =
rice
yields. Research results of S=
RI in
some Indian states indicated that rice yields can be enhanced without using=
the
additional monetary inputs and much water could be saved.
Therefore, keeping the aforesaid facts in view,
field experiments were conducted during rabi,
2005 to evaluate the performance of SRI at various water regimes and
fertilization techniques. The treatments comprised of five water
management practices and five nutrient management techniques with test vari=
ety
MTU 1010. Both the experiment=
s were
laid out in randomized block design with four replications. Except the treatments all other
management practices were followed as per recommendations for the crop. Results indicated that organic sou=
rces
applied alone are found inferior when compared with combination of organic =
and
inorganic fertilization. The highest grain yield was recorded with FYM @
5t/ha+half of recommended NPK (60N, 40P2O5 and 40 K
