The main objective of SRI is to achieve higher
productivity from factors of production devoted to rice such as land, labour, capital and water. Irrigated rice cultivation using transplanted seedling=

common in Tamil Nadu and 80 per cent of irrigat=

water is used for cultivation of rice. Of late, altern=
ate wetting and drying with non
flooded irrigation have shown promise for reducing water consumption without
significant effect on rice grain yield.&nb=
sp;
At this juncture
SRI technology plays an important role especially with the hi=
gh
yielding rice hybrids. SRI sy=
stem
aims at water saving with minimum irrigation through alternate wetting and
drying, reduced seed rate , increased soil aerat=
ion
and incorporation of weeds in rice field itself.
The above factors were tested in the farmers fi=
eld
through FLD demonstrations of SRI conducted with rice =
hybrid
CORH 3. The grain yield range=
d from
7.2 t/ha (FLD at Arasur – Thiruvarur
District ) to 11.5 t/ha (FLD at Periyanayakanpalayam
– Coimbatore District while the check rice
variety ADT-36 recorded yield=
of
4.5 t/ha at Arasur and ADT-43 recorded yield of=
9.25
t/ha at Periyanayakanpalayam The results of FLD demonstrations
conducted at the above locations are discussed in this paper.
