        &= nbsp;   Rice is the staple food for half the human population.  As the population rises , so does the demand for rice, yet yields of the crop are levelling out. The demand for rice is expected  to rise by a further 38% wi= th in 30 years, according to the United Nations.=   Rice yields are stable in the recent years and different efforts to increase the yields failed to achieve the goal. The System of Rice Intensification (SRI), developed in the late 1980’s in Madagascar, claims to boost yields at lower cost to farmers and could be a solution to boost the yields to some extent .  Basically this SRI methodology wou= ld increase the productivity of irrigated rice by changing the management of plants, soil, water and nutrients.  The practices contribute to both healthier soil and plants supported by greater root growth and nurturing of soil microbial abundance.  The expe= riments conducted at Directorate of Rice Research, Rajendranag= ar, Hyderabad also supports the above results and the yield increase of about 15-18% achieved under SRI method as compared to conventional method.  At DRR, an effort was made to stud= y the impact of Eco-SRI (only organic inputs), SRI (both organic and inorganic inputs) and Conventional method of cultivation (N levels are equal in all t= hree methods) on grain quality of rice varieties (MTU 1010, Shanti) and hybrids (DRRH -2).  The re= sults showed that there is a significant variation among the cultivars but not am= ong the treatments i.e., methods of cultivation.

        &= nbsp;   The quality parameters like Hulling, Milling, Head rice recovery, Kernel length, Kernel breadth, L/B ratio, grain type, grain chalkiness are not affected by different treatments. However,  there is a little variation= but not significant  was  noticed for the parameters like al= kali spreading value, Amylose content and gel consistency.  There is a significant  var= iation among the varieties for most of the quality parameters especially for amylose content (22.38 to 25.45%) and Gel consistency= (30.7 to 80.0 mm) indicating that either the Eco SRI, SRI or conventional method = of cultivating paddy has no impact on the quality parameters except for varietal differences.
