Influence of Sri method<= /span> of cultivation on microbial population in wet lands

A trial was conducted during the kharif season of 2004 and 2005 to study the different microbial populations in SRI ecosystem at Agricultural Research Station, Warangal.

 

For isolation of different microorganisms differential media were used and the microbial population was studied at flowering and harvesting stage. The data indicated that the colony farming units (cfu g<= sup>-1  soil ) of total Bacteria (76.8 X105), Fungi (36 X104) Actinomycetes (147.5 X103) and Azotobacter (36.5 X= 103)  and were higher in SRI compared to normal practice of rice cultivation. (Bacteria 47.5 X105, Fungi = 16.5 X104 Actinomycetes 53.8 X103 and Azotobacter 32.1 X103 cfu /g soil) but phosphate solubulizing bacteria we= re found to be less (40.0 X103 ) in SRI compares to conventional rice cultivation ( 62.0  X103 cfu /g  soil)

 

The non-flooded condition in SRI method has facilitated build up of useful soil micro flora (except phosphate solublizing bacteria) where as their populati= on was low under continuous flooded condition in normal practice.
