A study was undertaken to monitor the activity of major pests of rice viz., stem borer, leaf folder, gall midge, brown planthopper and green leafhopper  in System of Rice Intensifi= cation method of cultivation in the Periyar Vaigai Project area of Tamil Nad= u. Observations were recorded on CO43 paddy raised during September 2005 - Jan= uary 2006 and June 2006 - October 2006. In SRI method , the intensity of stem borer, leaf folder and gall midge was low compared to the conventional method. No significant difference was observed in the populati= on of brown planthopper and green leafhopper under= both SRI and conventional method of rice cultivation. The pest incidence is correlated with weather parameters and discussed in this paper.<= /span>
