SRI is a new revolutionary system of rice culti=
vation
for increasing rice productivity. The aim of S=
RI
is to achieve the full potential of rice by creating a growing environment =
for
plants that is most conducive for vigor and production. To popularize the <=

w:st=3D"on">SRI in Madurai
district, the KVK, Madurai
works with the three core principles of technology transfer, refinement and
training to a greater extent. With this in mind, an MS- Office, Power point Interactive Multimedia Module=
on SRI &nb=
sp;
in the regional language –Tamil was developed. The content=
s of
it includes importance of SRI,
nursery and main field preparation, Seed treatment, use of rolling marker f=
or
single seedling transplantation, use of rotary weeder<=
/span>
and LCC chart, water management and finally economics of cultivation. The
contents are hyper linked and are explained in detail with the support of v=
ideo
clippings and audio track. The module is user friendly as icons are provided
for navigation for viewing next and previous vid=
eos,
audio and home pages with the click of the mouse. More than one hundred far=
mers
have used this recently developed module till date. Reports inform that the
module is simple, easy to understand, gives an opportunity for seeing is believing and has created awareness among the farme=
rs to
adopt this practice. A flash module on SRI
is also developed in English with the above said contents for the use of
researchers and extension personnel. The work done on the development of th=
is module
in PowerPoint and Flash is a tip of an iceberg. The KVK has plans to develop
more modules with latest innovations and promote this practice to the maxim=
um
extent possible for improving rice production without increasing the area u=
nder
cultivation.
