PA 6444, Ajaya and one variety MTU-1010 were sown under pa= rtial SRI methods on a farmers field of Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. Nursery was sown on r= aised beds of 10 to 15cm. 12 to 18 days old seedlings were planted on absolutely leveled fields. Planting was done at 30 x 20cm spaing<= /span>. As per the prescribed method alternative drying and wetting was followed. T= he crop condition was good, but weeding was a big problem because of wider spa= ce. Too many weeds appeared in the field. The hand weeding was done under stand= ing water with Indira weeder</= span> (equipment). Weeder could not be moved in black cotton soils and thus this weeding was not effic= ient. Two to three manual weeding was done. A good weedicide= is required. Because of ample space available light penetration was good and damage by insects and pest was much lower. Duration of crop was reduced by = 5-7 days. Number of tillers ranged from 8-20 depending on organic fertilizer availability. Soils with high organic manure had more tillers (12-20). At o= ther places with low organic manure tillers were less (8-15). Yield levels were = at par with the normal method of cultivation.
