generate the first hand information on “SRI” method of cultivat=
ion in
comparison to direct seeding and transplantation an experiment was conducted
during kharif<=
/i>
2003 at Agricultural Research Station, Warangal. SRI recorded 8.7 t=
/ha
followed by 7.8 t/ha in direct seeded method and 6.3 t/ha in normal
transplanted method. “SRI” recorded more number of productive
tillers, more number of filled spikelets and th=
ere
was a slight increase in test weight also. Rice under “SRI” met=
hod
matured 10 days earlier to normal transplanting. Simultaneously, on-farm trials wer=
e also
conducted in the progressive farmers fields in Warangal di=
strict
and average yields of 7.6 t/ha under “SRI” =
method
and 5.8 t/ha in normal transplanted conditions were recorded. Experi=
ence
on “SRI” with farmers from 2003-2006, suggestions for quick
adoption and its limitations are discussed in this paper.=
