Capacity Building Strategy for Watershed Development Programme in Ranga Reddy district - An output of Process studies ...


The Process Study focuses on understanding the systems, mechanisms and processes envisaged in the guidelines in place on the ground that help in identifying critical gaps in the watershed program in Ranga Reddy district. Based on such understanding and through a participatory process involving all stakeholders, the study aims to identify and design appropriate intervention strategies to be implemented by DPAP.

 Operational Modalities of Network of Resource Organizations for Capacity Building In Ranga Reddy District

Watershed program is considered to be one of the important interventions to revive rural economy and restore ecological balance in the rural areas. In Ranga Reddy district, nearly 260 watershed projects are being implemented since 1995. Office Drought Prone Areas Development Program is anchoring the program in the district and providing overall direction to the program. A "Study of Processes" in watershed program in the district conducted by WASSAN brought out the need for strengthening the capacity building support in the district. In this context, WASSAN developed a clear strategy for the district. As part of this strategy, a network of resource organizations is proposed, which would take up the responsibility of providing necessary capacity building support to the Project Implementation Agencies and DPAP in the district.

Network Based Capacity Building Initiatives -  DPAP Ranga Reddy District

Network of Resource Organizations for Capacity Building

Watershed program is considered to be one of the important interventions to revive rural economy and restore ecological balance in the rural areas. In Ranga Reddy district, nearly 260 watershed projects are being implemented since 1995. Office Drought Prone Areas Development Program is anchoring the program in the district and providing overall direction to the program. A "Study of Processes" in watershed program in the district conducted by WASSAN brought out the need for strengthening the capacity building support in the district. In this context, WASSAN developed a clear strategy for the district. This outline of this strategy was shared with a number of experts to seek inputs/ comments. As part of this strategy, a network of resource organizations is proposed, which would take up the responsibility of providing necessary capacity building support to the Project Implementation Agencies and DPAP in the district. In response the request from DPAP, WASSAN initiated the process of organizing meetings and interactions with a selected group of voluntary organizations located in RR District and have experience of community mobilization and watershed programs. The discussions with these members led to the creation of a Network of Resource Organizations for Capacity Building in R R District. The members of this Network of Resource Organizations for Capacity Building agreed to participate in the agenda of building capacities of watershed functionaries in the district in a systematic manner. As part of these efforts, this proposal is being developed.

It is important to develop "Operational Modalities" of the Network of Resource Organizations for Capacity Building to function as a professional support group to achieve the objectives of the proposal. Some of the key processes and systems are briefly mentioned here. It is important to note that these systems and processes are flexible; depending on the experience they would be improved.
