Being an important component in the watershed
development program, technology occupies the prime
focus in implementing the program. Quality
and cost effectiveness of the program largely depends
on the technology that is being promoted. And In
respect of processes, people's knowledge and
indigenous technology matter a lot.
Many technological issues are emerging during
implementation of watershed program. These issues are
not limited to any particular specialization.
Solutions should necessarily be integrative and emerge
from inter-disciplinary perspectives and
cross-fertilization of ideas. Therefore, the need for
an initiative to build an interdisciplinary
Technology Resource Group. Involvement of a group like
this in addressing the issues would help in improving
quality and efficiency of the watershed development
program.
Technology Resource Group
(TRG)
is a WASSAN’s
initiative to form an inter-disciplinary platform of
technology resource centers and professionals
specializing in the field of watershed development.
TRG would share the new developments in their
respective fields, debate on emerging technical issues
and also, become a strong advocacy and referral center
for promoting people friendly and participatory
watershed technologies.
Technology Resource Group - Concept Note...
WASSAN provides the
necessary interface with practitioners. Also, WASSAN
would incorporate the new developments and important
issues debated in TRG into watershed training modules
to operationalize the collective agenda of the group.
The first consultative meeting of the Technology
Resource Group (TRG) was organized on 24th June, 2000
in Hyderabad The issues raised and debated in
the meeting were summarized and presented in this
note.
First Consultative Meeting of TRG - June 24th
2000
WASSAN initiated the process of creating resource
groups of experts and experienced persons on various
themes, which help in the process of strengthening the
on going watershed program in AP. As part of this
process, Technology Resource Group (TRG) met
once in June 2000 and discussed on issues related to
watershed technologies. One such topic was "Large
Scale Implementation of Continuous Contour Trenches (CCT)"
in watersheds under Neeru Meeru Program. WASSAN
organized a Field Study to understand the process of
implementing the CCTs in watershed program with the
following objectives:
-
To understand the technical norms adopted for
designing, estimating CCTs.
-
To understand the process of implementing CCTs
in watershed program.
-
To assess the short-term impacts of CCTs.
-
To understand the perception of community on the
implementation process and utility of CCTs as part of
the watershed program
Study on Continuous Contour Trenches (CCT)...
A Training Module on
People Estimates (Telugu)...
To
address the need for orienting members of watershed
development teams (WDTs) and field level functionaries
of project implementing agencies on the Peoples'
Estimates, WASSAN developed a 3 day training module on
the subject.
