LEAD Advocacy Network


LEAD Advocacy Network (LAN) is a network of resource organizations (WASSAN, SAMUHA, Seva Mandir, WOTR, SAMPARK and CEE) from six states across the country. CALPRI-SDC-IC is supporting this initiative.

 

LAN networks with the purpose of enhancing pro-poor livestock related livelihoods by strengthening practices of sustainable NRM particularly in watersheds and the promotion of an enabling policy environment. The LEAD Advocacy Network (LAN) evolved from the LEAD-India study on livestock, livelihood and environment interactions in watershed development. LAN is an inclusive process of networking to further the agenda of strengthening pro-poor livestock related livelihoods. The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) anchored the study. Over several interactions in the course of the study and later, the study partners decided to continue the process in terms of networking. With active support from CALPI the network formally emerged in January 2005. LAN members: LAN comprises of six NGO partners from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh Karnataka and Gujarat. It is initiated by six partners namely

  1. CEE (Gujarat)

  2. Sampark (Madhya Pradesh)

  3. Seva Mandir (Rajasthan)

  4. Samuha (Karnataka)

  5. WASSAN (Andhra Pradesh)

  6. WOTR (Maharashtra)

Principle

The purpose of LAN is to enhance pro-poor livestock related livelihoods by strengthening practices of sustainable natural resources management and by promoting an enabling environment.

Objectives

  • Identifying and advocating policy issues related to pro-poor livestock related livelihoods, particularly in the watershed development policies

  • Enhancing understanding on these issues amongst various stakeholder groups

  • Promoting better practices and building capacities

Network

The purpose of the LEAD India Platform is to promote sustainable use of land, livestock, water and forest resources for sustainable livelihoods. The LEAD India Platform is established as part of the global LEAD Initiative of FAO. The Indian platform consists of a Lead Advocacy Network (LAN) to carry out advocacy on LEAD issues and a Communication Platform anchored by the Centre for Environmental Education (CEE) to further LEAD communication for development.
LAN will also link with other networks www.indialead.org in related area.
