The LEAD Advocacy Network (LAN) - evolved from the LEAD-India study on livestock, livelihood and environment interactions in watershed development. LAN is an inclusive process of networking to further the agenda of strengthening pro-poor livestock related livelihoods. The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) anchored the study. Over several interactions in the course of the study and later, the study partners decided to continue the process in terms of networking. With active support from CALPI the network formally emerged in January 2005. LAN members: LAN comprises of six NGO partners from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh Karnataka and Gujarat. It is initiated by six partners namely

  • CEE (Gujarat)

  • Sampark (Madhya Pradesh)

  • Seva Mandir (Rajasthan)

  • Samuha (Karnataka)

  • WASSAN (Andhra Pradesh)

  • WOTR (Maharashtra)

Principle

The purpose of LAN is to enhance pro-poor livestock related livelihoods by strengthening practices of sustainable natural resources management and by promoting an enabling environment.

Objectives

  • Enhancing understanding on these issues amongst various stakeholder groups

  • Promoting better practices and building capacities

Network

Members from IWMI, the Working Group, CEE and CALPI are the special invitees into the network. Each organisation will anchor the network on a rotational basis. Presently WOTR is anchoring the network. The partners decided that it would be an inclusive process of networking with several networks, organisations and individuals interested in the agenda for making an impact.
