WASSAN (Watershed Support Services and Activities Network), Hyderabad since 1999. WASSAN is a network-based organisation focusing on improving the quality of mainstream programs in natural resources management and livelihoods. It engages actively in policy advocacy initiatives at state and national level mainly related to rainfed agriculture. It also provides field level support services to a large number of watershed development and other programs implemented by the civil society in partnership with communities. Currently, WASSAN has around 300 employees spread in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Jharkhand.

Technical Expert / Specialist - WHH

About us and project:
Watershed Support Services and Activities Network (WASSAN), Hyderabad is a network- based organization focusing on improving the quality of mainstream programs in natural resources management and livelihoods. It engages actively in policy advocacy initiatives at state and national level mainly related to rainfed areas. WASSAN has contributed substantially to development of watershed policies in various states and at the Government of India. WASSAN is also working with various partners in different States as part of RRA Network on rainfed agriculture related agenda. WASSAN has been implementing the project “Promoting Sustainable Integrated Farming System through Multi-actor Partnership” in Muniguda and Bisam Katak Blocks, Rayagada District. The project aims to enhance the capacities of extension workers, implement sustainable integrated farming systems, and create market linkages for ecological food. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Expert/Specialist to plan, execute, and monitor project activities to achieve the desired results.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Planning, Execution, and Monitoring:
– Develop work plans and timelines for project activities, ensure timely execution and monitoring of project activities, and coordinate with various stakeholders.

2. Capacity Building of Extension Workers:
– Organize and conduct meetings, workshops, and Training of Trainers (ToT) programs for stakeholders on agro-ecological themes, SIFS, and INRM models.

3. Microplanning & SIFS:
– Facilitate and conduct village-level concept seeding, Farmer Field Schools (FFS), and micro-planning workshops to develop and implement SIFS/INRM models.

4. Market Creation:
– Promote ecological foods through awareness among consumers and stakeholders, implement Participatory Guarantee System measures to ensure organic certification, and work with Farmer Producer Organizations.

5. Monitoring and Evaluation:
– Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the progress and impact of project activities, prepare and submit regular progress reports to the Project Coordinator, and conduct field visits to monitor project implementation and provide on-site support and guidance.

6. Documentation and Reporting:
– Document best practices, case studies, and lessons learned from project activities, and prepare technical reports, presentations, and other communication materials as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

– Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Rural Development, Rural Management or a related field with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in planning, executing, and monitoring agri and allied sector-based livelihoods programs.

Skills:
– Excellent project management, coordination, and organizational skills, strong communication, presentation, and training skills, proficiency in using Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Languages:
– Excellent knowledge of written and spoken Odia is a must. Working knowledge of English & Hindi is an advantage.

Candidates will be stationed in Muniguda, Rayagada and have to travel extensively for field visits and will be traveling inside and outside Odisha as per programme requirements. Communication and Advocacy Expert (Food System Transformation)

Job Overview:
The Communication and Advocacy Expert will play a key role in developing and executing communication strategies to support food system transformation initiatives. This role involves raising awareness, influencing policy, and advocating for sustainable and equitable food systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications, a passion for food systems, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategy Development and Implementation: Develop and implement communication and advocacy strategies to support food system transformation projects.

2. Content Creation and Management: Generate high-quality written content including reports, articles, blog posts, newsletters, and social media updates. Oversee the creation of multimedia content such as videos, infographics, and podcasts to promote food system initiatives.

3. Media Outreach: Coordinate media outreach efforts, pitch stories, and secure media coverage to highlight food system transformation efforts.

4. Advocacy Campaigns: Design and implement advocacy campaigns to influence policy and public opinion regarding sustainable food systems, collaborate with stakeholders, partners, and coalitions to advance advocacy goals.

5. Event Organization: Organize and support events such as workshops, seminars, training sessions, and public engagements to raise awareness about food system transformation.

6. Knowledge Management and Sharing: Identify, document, and disseminate best practices and lessons learned from food system transformation projects. Facilitate training sessions for stakeholders/ partners on effective communication and advocacy strategies.

7. Monitoring and Evaluation: Track and analyze the impact of communication and advocacy efforts. Prepare reports and presentations to inform stakeholders of progress and outcomes.

8. Digital Presence and Management: Develop and maintain a project website to disseminate information about food system transformation initiatives. Manage the organization’s online presence, including social media platforms.

Competencies:
1. Advocacy: Identify and utilize relevant information for advocacy across various audiences. Build and maintain partnerships with media, government, private sector, and civil society stakeholders.

2. Knowledge Sharing: Research and document best practices in food system transformation. Facilitate and encourage knowledge sharing within and outside the organization.

3. Teamwork and open communication.

4. Conflict management and decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience:

▪ Master’s degree in Mass Communications, Communications Strategy, Media Studies, Development Communication, Agricultural science/ Management, Rural Development, or related field.

▪ At least 5 years of relevant experience in communication and advocacy, preferably related to food systems or sustainable development.

Skills:
– Good knowledge and proficiency in data analysis packages, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Strong skills in analytics, including production of graphs, tables, charts, presentations Experience with web-based management systems.

Languages:
– Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English, Hindi and Odia.
