State Coordinator (Integrated Farming System)

About the Project:
WASSAN (Watershed Support Services and Activities Network), Hyderabad since 1999 is a network based organization focusing on improving the quality of mainstream programs in natural resources management and livelihoods. WASSAN is partners with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha in theimplementation of “Special Programme for promotion of Integrated Farming in Tribal Areas” in districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nuapada and Gajapati. Key features of SPPIF are protective irrigation, promotion of improved agronomic practices, crop diversification and intercropping, soil health management, custom hiring centers to reduce drudgery, community managed seed systems, promotion of vegetable cultivation for nutrition security, streamlining vaccination systems, Goat Shelter and poultry night shelter development, breed farms of indigenous birds, localized production of suitable fingerlings/yearlings, promotion of FPOs, etc. with “farmer to farmer “learning forming core implementation strategy.This advertisement is for recruitment of State Coordinator for the above mentioned project. 

Job Description:

  1. Liaising with Senior Government Officials and District level officials for grounding the programme.
  2. Planning, Coordination and Management of the programme with different state level departments on integrated farming.
  3. Troubleshooting to ensure smooth delivery of the project.
  4. Data analysis and report preparation.
  5. Regular field visits and monitoring of the programme at least 15-20 days a month.
  6. Overseeing Capacity Building and CB Management of management of ATMA, NGOs and Community resource persons.
  7. Documentation of Case studies, reports, etc. Video documentation skills will be an added advantage.
  8. Motivating the District Coordinators, ATMA and NGO staff to deliver the project.

Desired Profile of the Candidate:

  1. Should have full time Masters in Agriculture/Rural Management/Rural development/Agri Business Management/Other relevant work.
  2. Should have at least 7 years of total experiences and minimumof 5 years of experiences in agriculture or agriculture based livelihoods. Minimum 2 years of experience in Leadership roles.
  3. Should have demonstrable experience of liaising with State Government officials. Experience in management, administration and liaisoning projects at state level is a mandatory criterion.
  4. Should have knowledge of project planning and coordination with departments.
  5. Should have good understanding of project accounts and finances.
  6. Should possess strong presentation and articulation skills (both verbal and written). Ability to speak fluently in English and Hindi is a must. Knowledge of Oriya will be an added advantage.
  7. Should be willing to work out of Bhubaneswar or any other regional location.
  8. Should be willing to work as per Odisha holiday calendar. Should be willing to work on holidays and long hours as per the requirement of the project.
  9. Should be very motivated and be a team player. Should be willing to be flexible with location and work timings. Has strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and has an experience of managing a multi disciplinary team of professionals.
  10. Should be willing to learn concepts and become skilled to meet the organizational needs.


Rs 65000- 70000 per month. Deductions shall be applicable as per the process.

Job Description:
The Project Coordinator will be

  • Should lead the block team – provide adequate leadership, supervision, day to day management and support system to the team members
  • Perspective building on watershed concepts and ridge to valley principles
  • Facilitate participatory processes in planning, implementation and monitoring of works
  • Ensure ratification of DPRs plan by the Gram Sabha and its entry in the NREGA Soft (AAP)
  • Ensure timely approval of plan from block MGNREGA office
  • Provide assistance to team colleagues in the preparation of technical training materials and training modules and take up active roles in conducting training and exposure visits
  • Assist technical personnel in the Gram Panchayats and Block to prepare DPR including technical design and estimates of structures
  • Regular visit to the field areas, provide technical assistance/handholding to stakeholders at the grassroots (community, gram panchayat, frontline workers of the government) for proper implementation of works
  • Establish healthy working relationships with all relevant Stakeholders- Govt, PRIs and rural communities
  • Ensure compliance with systems and processes — timely progress reporting
  • Work in close coordination with the lead partner.

Desired Candidate Profile:

  • Graduate in Engineering / Agriculture Or allied Fields or a Post Graduate in Science / Humanities from reputed institutions with good communication skills in English and Hindi along with computing skills.
  • At least 3 years of experience in relevant field (Watershed/NRM projects) would be preferable, along with the ability to engage with farmers and community collectives,
  • The Candidate should be able to collaborate with relevant stakeholders/agencies to improve coordination and program delivery on the ground,
  • Should be motivated to work in the villages especially with deprived sections and willing to acquire new knowledge and skills relevant to the project and guide implementation processes,

As per the Experience.

State Coordinator (Full Time)

Locations: Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda (Telangana)

Implementation of the Forest Rights act, 2006 for recognition of rights of the pastoralist communities of the Indian state of Telangana.

What We do
The Centre for Pastoralism (CfP) works across India on collaborative programs to enhance pastoralist livelihood security, gain mainstream recognition of livestock breeds developed by pastoralists, explore ways of securing their access to grazing resources, promote research to enhance understanding of pastoral systems and undertake outreach to educate society on pastoralism and its many contributions. In advancing these goals, CfP works in close partnership with civil society, academia, government agencies and the private sector.

  • CfP is a Sahjeevan initiative that emerged from Sahjeevan’s 2016 Living Lightly: Journeys with Pastoralists Exhibition Sahjeevan’s work on pastoralism in Kachchh, Gujarat over the past two decades has enjoyed a number of successes, and CfP was set up with the idea of expanding this work outside of Gujarat, in the rest of India.
  • WASSAN (The Watershed Support Services and Activities Network), a national level non-profit organization works with the rainfed farming and pastoralist communities, civil society organizations, research institutes, and government institutions for bringing in prosperity and ecological security of rainfed areas. Small holder farmers, farm workers, women and tribal communities are in focus.
  • CONARE (Conservation of Nature through Rural Awakening – CONARE) was founded in the year 1999 by a group of socially concerned and committed people with an aim to facilitate socio-economic and cultural development of the most marginalized and deprived communities. Since inception the approaches towards the holistic development of the communities has been taken up through the collective actions. CONARE is based at Nagarkurnool District of Telangana State in India and geographically reaching to the communities in Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy Districts by its interventions.

About the Project
Implementation of the forest rights act, 2006 (FRA, 2006), for recognition of traditional rights of the pastoralist communities of the Indian state of Telangana: This project is designed to build capacities, of the pastoral communities depending on commons and forests, including the protected areas (including the Amarabad Tiger Reserve and other wildlife sanctuaries) in Telangana state. The project envisions to help the pastoralist communities of the state to reclaim their customary rights on commons, forests and other natural resources and establish their traditional existence for generations to come.

About the Role
State Coordinator’s (SC) role is an integral part and vital for smooth functioning of the present project. SC is expected to coordinate among the different organisations and team of at least 5 members on a regular basis. The job is stationed at CONARE office based out of Atchampet town, Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. The role requires frequent travel to remote locations inside the forests and protected areas of the two districts of Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda of Telangana. The travel often involves driving extensively over rough terrains and inclement weather conditions.

The role requires developing a deep understanding of the Forest Rights Act, 2006 in the context of mobile pastoralism; however, this can be developed over time but a basic orientation of the FRA 2006, before joining the project is expected. It requires one to work quite closely with pastoral communities belonging to the particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), other scheduled tribes, scheduled castes, and other traditional forest dwelling communities (OTFD) in the two project districts of the state. The position requires to maintain objectivity and have respect and sensitivity to the culture, aspirations, needs, livelihoods, and practices of the local communities.

The state coordinator will work with the internal team, under the guidance of CONARE’s director and WASSAN’s team members. Some responsibilities are listed below:

  • Conceptualizing, operationalizing, and overseeing the program.
  • Conducting in-depth interviews, focus groups discussions, and ethnographic research.
    Analysing qualitative data and finding patterns in the data.
    Building the momentum in the pastoral community by conducting field visits, organising awareness activities and trainings/workshops.
    Building relationships with Forest Rights Committee members, SDLC and DLC level officials, ITDA, Revenue, Agriculture/Animal Husbandry, and the Forest Department.
    Organising periodic awareness workshops with the ITDA and forest department personnel to bring them to a common understanding of the Act.
    Guiding the project team members as and when there is a need to upgrade their knowledge around the work to further the cause.
    Reporting CONARE WASSAN and CFP on a regular basis about the progress of the project.
    Documentation of work in the form of proceeding reports, quarterly reports, field documentation of the work done, and ensuring periodic documentation happens at the grassroot levels by the team members.
    Participation in meetings and conferences at different levels to represent the work being done in the state.

    NOTE: Generating progress reports, and undertaking documentation related to the project is a must.

Role Requirements
We are looking for someone with

  • Knowledge of Telugu is mandatory: Reading, writing, and speaking
  • High level of comfort with traveling on the field
  • High level of comfort with qualitative research
  • Ability to take ownership of their work.
  • Curiosity to go in-depth of the project work.
  • Willing to learn, re-learn and de-learn.
  • Immense respect to culture, practices, knowledge, needs and aspirations of the local communities.

Qualifications required:

  • Master’s degree in the social sciences / law / Development / Forestry / Conservation studies
  • Strong writing and communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to synthesise material with language proficiency in Telugu, English and/or Hindi


  • Managed a team of 5 or more number of members, Coordination with multiple stakeholders on a regular basis
  • Previous experience working with or researching the Forest Rights Act
  • Familiarity with pastoralism would be a major plus
  • Experience interacting with multiple levels of stakeholders (preferably Government) on forest rights or other rights-based issues
  • Relationship development and sustaining those preferably with pastoral community members
  • Ability to network with a range of people at various levels in the decision making, community heads, government officials.

Travel Location

  • Two districts of Telangana: Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda.
  • Base office: CONARE, Achampet office and WASSAN, Hyderabad office

Data Administrator

WASSAN is partners with the Azim Premji Foundation (APF) and Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS), Government of Andhra Pradesh in the implementation of “Community Managed Natural Farming in Tribal Areas” in districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and East Godavari.

Accessibility of COVID vaccine has become an issue in rural tribal areas hence Azim Premji Foundation has extended its support for protecting the tribal communities of ITDA Paderu region from COVID. The core components of this initiative are planning with concerned PHCs, assisting them in terms of mobilization of communities and data consolidation and ensuring 100% coverage of villages in select PHCs of ITDA Paderu region with the support of NGOs. This advertisement is for the recruitment of a data administrator for the COVID project.

Job Description:
The Programme Officer (Data administrator) will be responsible for developing an online platform to generate data and computing and analyse the data as per the project needs.

Specific tasks include:

  1. To work closely monitoring the data operators with 9 NGOs covering select PHCs and train them on mobile apps and other data management aspects.
  2. Develop ODK/ any other online formats along with the project team and conduct mock tests in the field for finalization.
  3. Orientation to the field team on management addresses field issues if any on data collection.
  4. Analyse data PHC wise, GP wise, Village wise data with age break up and for special groups (18+, 45+ and pregnant and lactating women and children coverage by 1st dose and second dose etc)
  5. Daily status reports will be presented and shared in the Whatsapp group.
  6. Thorough knowledge of Pivot analytical skills by using both excel and google spreadsheets data
  7. Coordinate with APF, partner NGOs data operators to consolidate the information for presentation.
  8. Coordinate with the IT and M&E team at WASSAN for seeking technical assistance.

Desired Profile of the Candidate:

  1. Should have a B.Tech in computer science.
  2. At least 2 years of relevant experience in data operation through a mobile application.
  3. Candidates having knowledge/ experience in data analytical graphs and calculations.
  4. Must have excellent knowledge of working in MS Office suite, particularly on Excel and google spreadsheets/ docs.
  5. The candidate should have knowledge of preparing analytical reports and presentations.
  6. Should be willing to learn concepts and become skilled to meet the organizational needs.
