OMM - Urban Learnship Programme

As part of Odisha Millets Mission (OMM), the Programme Secretariat “Watershed Support Services and Activities Network” (WASSAN) is launching an Urban Internship Programme for the year 20224-25. The Interns shall be hired under various thematic areas for the larger goal of promotion & awareness of millets.

Introduction

The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha, launched Odisha Millets Mission (OMM) as a flagship program in 2017-18. OMM is a uniquely designed government-led multi-stakeholder intervention focusing on developing a sustainable food system of millets in the rainfed areas of Odisha and ensuring nutritional security to at least 5 million households of vulnerable and indigenous communities in Odisha. The essential elements under the program include; a decentralized operational framework, financial and institutional support from the government through convergence and enabling policies, promotion of rural enterprise in the millet value chain, awareness campaigns for behavior change, efforts to support household consumption, and the revival of indigenous culture.

During 2017-18 OMM was introduced in 30 blocks covering seven districts. By 2021-22 it was extended to 84 blocks covering 15 districts. In 2022 the program covered 143 blocks in 19 districts. Now we are covering 177 blocks in 30 districts. The scaling up of the OMM shows the success and acceptance of the program by the communities of Odisha.

OBJECTIVES OF ODISHA MILLETS MISSION

 

1. Increasing household consumption of millet by 25% to the baseline.

2. Revalorization of millet food cultures in urban and rural areas.

3. Conservation and promotion of millet landraces through seed system of landraces

4. Promotion of post-harvest and primary processing enterprises on millets.

5. Improving productivity of millet-based crop systems.

6. Promotion of millet value-addition enterprises in rural/urban areas of Odisha.

7. Inclusion of millets in PDS, ICDS, MDM, Welfare Hostels, and others.

8. Facilitating the millet markets and exports of millet-based products.

How is this internship unique?

  • Interns will get an opportunity to learn various millet-based food promoted under Odisha Millets Mission.
  • OMM is a unique programme launched by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment, Government of Odisha which has received numerous recognitions and appreciation from central government and international agencies. The interns will get the opportunity to work in the flagship programme of the Odisha Government.
  • Interns will get an opportunity to bring innovative ideas promoting consumption of millets in the urban areas.

General information on the Urban Internship Programme:

  • Duration- The duration of the internship is 45 to 60 days depending upon the nature of work. A half day orientation shall be planned for the interns on the joining day which is to be mandatorily attended by the interns.
  • Base Location- The base location of the internship shall be Bhubaneswar. This includes travel within the city. Travel outside the city may be done as per requirement.
  • Registration / Application & Process- The interested candidates can apply through google form link for various thematic areas. Both passed out and on-going students may apply. The shortlisted candidates shall be called for a physical or virtual interview. The final selected candidates for the urban internship programme shall be intimated via email.
  • Interns Diary- The interns shall maintain a daily dairy where they would list their daily work and get it signed by their respective supervisor at the end of the day. Failure to keep the log / Dairy or to submit it as required (weekly) may result in removal from the internship or unsatisfactory feedback from the Intern supervisor.
  • Evaluation- The supervisor shall evaluate the performance of the interns periodically. At the end of the internship, the intern shall make a detailed presentation of the learnings, challenges etc and submit a detailed final report to Supervisor and HR, WASSAN.
  • Stipend & Allowances- The monthly stipend for the internship shall be Rs 15,000 which includes all allowances. If the internship duration is 45 days, then the stipend shall be adjusted accordingly. In special cases, the interns may be provided with TA/DA (as per organization norms) in case of travel to outside of the base location with due approval of the concerned authorities.
  • Office Timings, Leaves & Holidays- The interns are expected to work as per WASSAN office calendar and timings. If any intern wants to avail leave, they shall take prior permission from their supervisor which shall be granted based on suitable grounds.
  • Termination- The Programme Secretariat for Odisha Millets Mission has the right to terminate the internship and has the right to relieve based on the performance of the intern or if the intern’s behavior is detrimental to the operation and/or credibility of the programme at any time of the internship period. Self-Declaration form: the intern has to sign a self-declaration form at the beginning of the internship programme as prescribed by the programme secretariat.
  • Extension- The internship duration may be extended based on the performance of the intern, project requirements & mutual agreement between candidate & organization.
  • Reporting Structure- The Internship Supervisor for the programme shall be assigned during the orientation programme, who will be responsible for supervising overall management of the urban internship programme.

Brief Job Description for the Interns under various Thematic Areas

Intern (Recipe Development and Documentation) 1 No.

  • Qualification Requirement- Studying or passed Bachelors / Masters in Hotel Management or allied fields
  • Roles & Responsibilities:
    * Development of delicious, visually appealing and easy to follow traditional / fusion millet recipes
    * Documentation of the millet recipes developed through R&D.
    * Supporting the video documentation of different millet based recipes.
    * Market Survey of different Hotels & Restaurants for understanding the feedback on inclusion of millet recipes in menus. Incorporating those feedback into the existing recipes.
    * Any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor or concerned authorities.

Intern (Capacity Building and Collaborations) 1 No.

  • Qualification Requirement- Studying or passed MBA in Marketing / Agri-business / Rural Management / Masters in Public Policy / Development Studies / Social Works / Events Management or allied fields
  • Roles & Responsibilities:
    * Supporting core team in developing various training modules for different stakeholders such as ASHA workers, Doctors, Chefs, women self help groups etc.
    * Understanding the Odisha Millets Mission and its different collaborative efforts with various Govt. & Private agencies.
    * Supporting the core team in various collaborations of OMM.
    * Supporting the core team in planning the training calendar and executing those training sessions.
    * Conducting secondary research on best practices of various model training modules.
    * Any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor or concerned authorities.

Intern (Events and Awareness Campaigns) 1 No.

  • Qualification Requirement- Studying or passed MBA in Marketing / Agri-business / Rural Management / Masters in Public Policy / Development Studies / Social Works / Events Management or allied fields.
  • Roles & Responsibilities:
    * Supporting the core team in planning the activity plan and calendar with respect to events.
    * Coordinating and recording various events in datasheets with proper validation.
    * Planning & executing various millet awareness campaigns, tasting events, food festivals, product campaigns etc.
    * Supporting team in data collection and documentation on different aspects of the campaigns.
    * Market Survey of different Hotels & Restaurants for understanding the feedback on inclusion of millet recipes in menus.
    * Any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor or concerned authorities.

Intern (Market Research and Analysis) - 1 No.

  • Qualification Requirement- Studying or passed MBA in Sales / Marketing or allied fields
  • Roles & Responsibilities:
    * Supporting core team in preparation of survey questionnaires and data collection mechanism
    * Collecting data from various stakeholders and channels for millets market research
    * Understanding how self help groups work in Millet Shakti Cafes / Outlets through field visits and data collection
    * Conducting various data analysis and reports on the above works.
    * Any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor or concerned authorities.

Intern (Social Media and Cataloging Management)

  • Qualification Requirement- Studying or passed Masters in Social Media Management / Events Management / Digital Marketing / Marketing / Mass Communication or allied fields
  • Roles & Responsibilities:
    * Following & recording various social media trends and best practices with special focus on Government agencies.
    * Supporting core team in content creation & posting through various social media channels.
    * Coordinating with multiple teams to curate content for social media.
    * Supporting core team in conducting social media campaigns.
    * Supporting core team in photo & video cataloging.
    * Any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor or concerned authorities.
